Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity Test

Image
Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity Test : An  ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) test  is an  in-situ,   nondestructive  test to check the quality of  concrete   and natural rocks. In this test, the strength and quality of concrete or rock is assessed by measuring the velocity of an   ultrasonic pulse  passing through a concrete structure or natural rock formation. This test is conducted by passing a pulse of ultrasonic through concrete to be tested and measuring the time taken by pulse to get through the structure. Higher velocities indicate good quality and continuity of the material, while slower velocities may indicate concrete with many cracks or voids. Ultrasonic testing equipment includes a pulse generation circuit, consisting of electronic circuit for generating pulses and a transducer for transforming electronic pulse into mechanical pulse having an oscillation frequency in range of 40 kHz to 50 kHz, and a pulse reception circui...

Rebound Hammer test

Image
Rebound Hammer test : Rebound Hammer test is a Non-destructive testing method of concrete which provide a convenient and rapid indication of the compressive strength of the concrete. The rebound hammer is also called as Schmidt hammer that consist of a spring controlled mass that slides on a plunger within a tubular housing. Objective of Rebound Hammer Test : To determine the compressive strength of the concrete by relating the rebound index and the compressive strength To assess the uniformity of the concrete To assess the quality of the concrete based on the standard specifications To relate one concrete element with other in terms of quality Rebound hammer test method can be used to differentiate the acceptable and questionable parts of the structure or to compare two different structures based on strength. Rebound Hammer Positions for Testing Concrete Structure : Points to Remember in Rebound Hammer Test : The concrete surface should be smooth, clean and dry. ...

Importance of Plinth beam

Image
Visiting Edachira site                                      In that day we are visiting Edachira site,It's near to Kakkanad,Ernakulam the house is two storey ground floor and first floor. On the day plinth beam reinforcement work is going,10mm and 8mm rods are used for the reinforcement. We are cross checked the size of reinforcement and outer portion. Plinth beam :                     Plinth beam  is a  beam  in a framed structure provided at or above sometimes below ground level that takes the load of the wall built on top of it. Most other  beams  are subjected to loads not only from walls but also the load from the slab, such as dead loads self weight of slab, floor finish and live load. Why plinth beams are provided?                       Plinth bea...

Basics of BIM ARCHICAD

Image
BIM ARCHICAD : ARCHICAD is an architectural BIM CAD software for Macintosh and Windows developed by the Hungarian company Graphisoft. ARCHICAD offers computer aided solutions for handling all common aspects of aesthetics and engineering during the whole design process of the built environment  buildings, interiors, urban areas, etc.. Development of ARCHICAD started in 1982 for the original Apple Macintosh. Following its launch in 1987, with Graphisoft's "Virtual Building" concept, ARCHICAD became regarded by some as the first implementation of BIM ARCHICAD has been recognized as the first CAD product on a personal computer able to create both 2D and 3D geometry, as well as the first commercial BIM product for personal computers and considered "revolutionary" for the ability to store large amounts of information within the 3D mode. Visiting Pile Site

Image
Recently we have got an opportunity to visited a pile site near Thrikkakara, Edapally, kochi.  Here the it was under reamed pile. And It was the great experience in that visit. We noticed the soil stability and also how to fit the tripod which is used for the pullying the materials used for the pile.We have studied the limitations in the piling site and also the safety measures considered in this site.
